BAHAGIA STEEL orders new twin-strand HSD rebar line from SMS group to meet growing construction steel demand in Indonesia
The new twin-strand HSD rebar line will process reinforcing steel in the 5.2 to 32mm diameter range at speeds of up to 45 meters per second
BAHAGIA STEEL, an Indonesian producer of round bar and rebar based in Surabaya, has placed its first order with SMS group for a new twin-strand high-speed delivery (HSD) rebar production line for its Kampung Wringinanom site. The plant is scheduled for completion at the end of 2026.
BAHAGIA STEEL has invested in a greenfield rebar line to increase production efficiency and meet growing demand for high-quality construction steel, driven by expanding construction projects in Indonesia. Capable of producing rebars with diameters from 5.2 to 32 millimeters at maximum rolling speeds of up to 45 meters per second, the new line boosts the company’s competitiveness and supports local infrastructure needs.
SMS will supply the mechanical and automation control equipment, including a high-speed shear upstream of the finishing block, a waterbox cooling system, and the twin-strand HSD line. The line is designed for very high productivity rates, striking a perfect balance between producing very thin products, for example 5.2 millimeters in diameter, and meeting the extremely high capacity demands of the plant. This capability positions the system as a versatile solution for challenging production requirements. The 45-meter-per-second performance is enabled by the line configuration, advanced automation and HSD system, which guarantees one bar per notch for precise counting and process control, delivering tighter tolerances across strands compared with traditional slitting technology. These technical advantages translate into measurable operational benefits, including improved process control, higher material yield (up to approximately 2% by reducing short bars in multistrand rolling), and better overall production efficiency.
