voestalpine Railway Systems secures orders worth €500m to supply major German and Swiss national railway projects

Deutsche Bahn and Schweizerische Bundesbahnen turn to rail infrastructure systems from voestalpine

voestalpine has received orders totalling €500m from the German (Deutsche Bahn, DB) and Swiss (Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, SBB) national railways for rails, turnouts, signaling technology and monitoring applications.

Recently, voestalpine equipped the ‘Koralmbahn’ railway line in Austria, as well as Egypt’s first high-speed line ‘Green Line’.

“We are delighted that these orders will continue our longstanding partnership with the DB and SBB, and that we are contributing to modernise and digitalise Europe’s railway infrastructure with our highly sophisticated products and systems,“ said Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine.

DB is planning over €23 billion in investments to modernise national railway infrastructure in 2026. voestalpine Railway Systems will be supplying DB with premium rails and turnout components. These will be used in projects such as the major renovation of Frankfurt main station, and in upgrading high-performance corridors including the Hamburg–Berlin line.

voestalpine Railway Systems is also responsible for providing comprehensive services, training and maintenance support across Germany. A further focus is rail and turnout logistics, with welded long rails and fully pre-assembled turnout systems delivered directly to the construction site.

SBB has recently signed a 20-year framework agreement to further digitalise its rail network. By delivering axle counting systems, which report whether a section of track is free or occupied, for instance, voestalpine Railway Systems is playing an important role in increasing safety on the Swiss rail network. A service contract has also been set for service and diagnosis systems, as well as cybersecurity solutions.
